{"id":12582,"date":"2019-04-23T20:44:49","date_gmt":"2019-04-24T00:44:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/annunciationdesigns.com\/wp59\/?p=12582"},"modified":"2022-09-08T19:48:23","modified_gmt":"2022-09-08T23:48:23","slug":"thriving-in-survival-mode","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/annunciationdesigns.com\/wp59\/thriving-in-survival-mode\/","title":{"rendered":"Thriving in Survival Mode &#8211; Tales from the First Trimester"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>So, I&#8217;ve been sick for a few months.\u00a0 Not, like, sickness sick.\u00a0 I&#8217;m going to be fine.\u00a0 I mean &#8220;morning sickness,&#8221; but the kind that is with me every second of the day.\u00a0 Most days (now that I&#8217;m 20 weeks) I only throw up once, but for several weeks I was throwing up five to six times a day.\u00a0 Regular life stalled out.\u00a0 Survival Mode swooped in.<\/p>\n<p>I stay home with my son.\u00a0 I teach online.\u00a0 I run a business.<\/p>\n<p>How did we keep going?\u00a0 Here are my best tips:<\/p>\n<h2>1. I set my business up to run without me.<\/h2>\n<p>My husband knows how to do much of the work needed.\u00a0 I pushed off launches I was excited about.\u00a0 I kept to the bare minimum.<\/p>\n<h2>2. I loved my son while also explaining that I couldn&#8217;t dance, run, or play with him.<\/h2>\n<p>I needed to rest and I would happily read him a book, or color with him, or play Go Fish from my permanent spot on the couch.<\/p>\n<h2>3. I asked for help.<\/h2>\n<p>This does not come naturally to me at all! I asked my mom to play with my son at the library while I sat in a quiet corner and tried to catch up.\u00a0 Instead of attending my women&#8217;s group, I asked the host if I could drop my son off and desperately try to finish overdue work.\u00a0 And, even though these people did not know how sick I was, they happily helped!\u00a0 Honestly, more than those precious hours of work, knowing that people around me cared enough to help was a huge boost to my sanity.<\/p>\n<h2>4.
